This is something new I want to start doing: World of Warcraft addon reviews.
In my looking for addons for myself, intelligible reviews from people as to how well it does what it says it’s going to do would’ve been nice. so I will start doing that for my friends (that’s you guys) as often as I feel like it.
Today’s addon is called StatusBars.
This nifty little addon is a must-have for rogues, and really damn nice for other classes.
It takes the space right above your action bars in the lower-center of the screen and uses it to place status bars fairly close together. The bars you see, in order from top down, are Your Health, Your Mana/Energy/Rage, Combo Points on the target (in large, red buttons that are obvious), the Enemy’s Health, and the Enemy’s Mana.
It doesn’t do anything horribly revolutionary with the bars, aside from health bars change color depending on the percentage of health you have left. 100% - 75% is Green, 75% - 50% is yellow (which is slightly annoying for classes with Energy), and 50% - 0% is flashing orange.
The bars are fairly unobtrusive, and disappear when not needed. When you have no enemy targetted, the enemy bar disappears. And when you’re out of combat and at 100% health/mana, your bars disappear.
For my gripes about it, I think the health bar starts flashing a bit too soon. And I wouldn’t mind if the font used for the numbers and percentages was in a slightly more contrasting color. But those aren’t too bad. The largest gripe is that the secondary nature if it is fairly obvious. It is not an integrated part of the WoW client, and thus it takes longer to get its information. (i.e., you get Energy from the timers, your bars display it, and then after a moment, the StatusBar displays it). Sometimes this time-difference can mean the world to a Rogue, as a lot of survival tends to be using skills as soon as you have the energy for it.
But all-in-all, I think StatusBars is a wonderful addition to any addon library.
